To help reduce recidivism, it is crucial to build strong relationships between fathers and their children. AFSFI provides programs as well as other educational resources to help fathers connect to their families and children. Studies have shown that fathers that successfully reconnect and build a strong bond with their children are less likely to return to prison.
AFSFI, primarily, addresses the family/marital domain of an offender’s relationships with their family. ASFI identifies and addresses the “needs indicators” that include relationships with siblings and parents, absence of parents, criminal history and/or history of family abuse, marital history, dependents, parenting skills and involvement in child abusing.AFSFI, addresses many of these issues. Programming that builds support for the offender’s families, teaches parenting skills and reinforces offender accountability for dependent children, as well as directly addresses family dysfunction, can help address criminogenic issues. These needs are addressed in an extensive manner by AFSFI.
