Improving Literacy Rates Helps Reduce the Chance of Recidivism

ASFI literacy initiative program provides personal fulfillment for formally incarcerated people. We provide a variety of skills that help incarcerated individuals transition back into society.

Several studies have shown that participation in education programs for formally incarcerated individuals reduces recidivism rates. It also increases employment rates. This is an important and cost effective way to reduce crime and recidivism.

Literacy programs also address family relationships. Studies have shown that people with limited literacy skills take desperate measures to earn enough money to survive. In addition, people who read have higher self-confidence and decreased criminal behavior.
